In the Zettelkasten methodology, where each note is connected to others according to the idea compass principle (North, West, South, East), you can organize your work in the Conoted app in a simpler and more intuitive way. Instead of creating separate groups for each direction, you can create one main group that will act as a project, and within this group, you can structure your notes according to the four directions. This approach allows you to maintain flexibility and structure, while simplifying note management.
How does it work?
1. Create a main group: The main group represents the project or big idea you are working on. It will collect all related notes, making it the center of your work on a certain topic.
2. Organize notes within a group: Within the main group, notes can be structured according to the directions of the idea compass:
- North — the main idea or source.
- West — similar or related ideas.
- South — details and subtopics.
- East — antonyms, criticism, or alternative ideas.
Note Labeling Methods
To differentiate notes by directions of the Ideas Compass within a group, you can use different labeling methods:
1. Color Coding:
- North — red.
- West — blue.
- South — green.
- East — yellow.
Colors will help you visually highlight notes and navigate the group faster. However, Conoted does not yet support color labels or highlights. We are planning to do so.
2. Label in the Title:
If color coding is not yet available, you can use text labels at the beginning of the note title:
- North: [N]
- West: [W]
- South: [S]
- East: [E]
Such marking will be easily noticeable when viewing the list of notes and will help to keep them structured.
3. Using tags:
You can create special tags for each direction:
- #North
- #West
- #South
- #East
This will not only simplify the search for notes by direction, but also allow you to filter notes within a group, which is especially useful for large amounts of information.
But this will be convenient when the search for tags is implemented only within a separate group. We are going to do this
Benefits of this approach
1. Simplification of project management:
Instead of multiple groups, you will have one main group for each project, which simplifies navigation and management.
2. Flexibility:
Within a group, you can add new notes and immediately label them by direction, without creating additional groups. This maintains the structure, but does not overload the system.
3. Quick orientation:
Color coding or text labels allow you to quickly navigate the contents of the group, find the necessary notes and track the connections between them.
4. Project integrity:
All project notes are in one place, which allows you to see the whole picture and manage knowledge more easily. This is especially important when working with large topics that require detailed analysis and structuring.
Conclusion
Using one main group for a project and organizing notes within this group according to the idea compass principle is a convenient and intuitive way to work with information in Conoted. This approach allows you to maintain flexibility and structure without complicating the system. Color coding, text labels, or tags make working with notes more efficient and visually organized. The result is a convenient tool for knowledge management and project work that adapts to your needs and helps you stay focused on the main thing.
